I can't believve you have a computer without a nic card! I've never seen one in 15 years that hasn't. It looks like a slightly bigger phone cord. You can install a NIC in a computer for about 10-20 dollars in under 10 min, OR you could install a wireless adapter in the same time. Either way, you need a router between the computers and the modem about 50 dollars

The only option I can think of requires the broadband modem to have both usb and ethernet. Some modems will allow you connect one computer via usb and another via ethernet. This is not a supported configuration, but I've heard that it can work.

Your best option is to simply buy an ethernet card or usb ethernet adapter. They are very inexpensive.

You will need an Ethernet NIC card. They are PCI cards that are about $35 and easy to install. You can buy them at most department stores. If you are using a modem on the other side of the route you can connect to it using a USB cable. But for a router you will need an NIC.

Either install an ethernet adapter in your PCI expansion slot on your computer, and run a ethernet cable form your computer to the router, or install a wireless adapter in one of your PCI, or AGP expansion slot, and configure his DSL to include your computer.(Put the cd from his DSL provider in your computer, answer no it's not the first computer, and go through all the steps, then he has to go into his account, and add you to it.)
