i have been on the birth control pill for about 2 years now and i remember when i was just starting out i took ovcon 35 (35 mg) of the pill for well over a year and about every 2 weeks i would go through break through bleeding, i got annoyed and switched brands and while i was at it i upped my dosage of the pill to 50 mg a month instead of 35. Now i don't break through bleed however when i do get my periods they are very very light and last for only a couple of days and i was wondering if thats normal or even healthy i bleed maybe a tablespoons worth of blood or so vs when i wasnt on the pill i was much heavier can someone tell me if really light periods are normal and whether or not the # of mgs in the pill effect the overall heaviness of your period? thanks

yes, this is normal. Higher dosage = less bleeding.

My cholesterol went sky-high. Every doctor I have been to says that is not possible. However, the warnings do say that heart conditions can be affected, especially in smokers (I am not a smoker). While I was on the pill, I changed my diet and exercise habits, and the cholesterol continued to go up every year (for years). As soon as I got off of it, my cholesterol went back down. Just like that. I was on the pill for 10 years. I also have a friend who took the pill for 20 years without a break. She had a pulmonary embolism, which almost killed her. Her doctors (several different ones saw her, with several different specialties, as she was a case study while in the hospital recovering because it is so rare to live through this) all have concluded that the pill caused this to happen to her. I have become convinced that the pill is not an option for me, anymore. I think it is dangerous, and I would not go on it again.
