It depends on what you call the biggest: size or volume.
Eta Carinae is probably the most well known of the supergiants, with a mass 150-200 times that of the sun, and a luminosity of about four million times that of the sun.

The top eleven largest stars in our galaxy (and they are all near to us, so there may be larger stars, further away of which we don't yet know) are as follows:

TOP ELEVEN LARGEST KNOWN STARS
(all in our galaxy)

Star name solar diameter (Sun = 1)

1. VY Canis Majoris (Humphreys Model) 1800-2100 (5,000 light years away)

2. VV Cephei 1600-1900 (3,000 light years away)

3. V354 Cephei 1520 (9,000 light-years away)

4. KW Sagitarii 1460 (9,800 light-years away)

5. KY Cygni 1420 (5,200 light-years away)

6, Mu Cephei (Herschel's "Garnet Star") 1420 (3,000 light years away)

7. V509 Cassiopeiae 910 (7,800 light years away)

8. V838 Monocerotis 800 (20,000 light years away)

9. V382 Carinae 747 (at least 3,000 light years away)

10. Antares (Alpha Scorpii) 700 (600 light years away)

11. Betelgeuse (Alpha Orionis) is 650 Solar diameters in size and 427 light years away.

8 of the top 11 are red giants of various sizes including supergiant and hypergiant.

Betelgeuse is only 11th, I am afraid, and Eta Carinae is some way further down the list at 24th with Epsilon Aurigae A in 32nd place.

As for the Sun, this list is in terms of Solar Diameters and of course the solar diameter of the Sun = 1 by definition. It really isn't anything like as large as some people imagine. It is classed as a yellow sub-dwarf.

The Betelgeuse is the biggest star discovered so far. It is way bigger than the sun, or any other nearby star.

The largest star that is known is a star in the constellation of Auriga, the charioteer. Its name is Epsilon Aurigae. It is thought to be a gigantic star that is about 2,700 times the size of the Sun!

Also in the top-ten list of large stars is Betelgeuse. Betelgeuse is located in the constellation Orion which appears in the winter time in the northern hemisphere.

VY Canis Majoris is the largest star known, and also one of the most luminous. It is 2100 solar radii which means that if Canis Majoris was placed in our Solar System, it would extend well past the orbit of Saturn, which is more than 800,000,000 miles from the Sun. That's big!
