It has a lot of connotations, but in general it refers to a request made from something to something else. It could be software querying a printer to print a page, software querying a database to look up stored information, or the operating system querying the event scheduler to determine what program is due for processor time.
You're pretty safe using its general denotive meaning, which is simply "a question; an inquiry."

I guess query could be used in a very general sense, but the only reasonable meaning I know of (as far as computers are concerned) is a database or search query. In that usage, a query is criteria for results to be returned by the system. The reason they chose query is because the results from such a search are the answers to questions like "What items satisfy x, y, and z conditions?" Since the reason for executing the operation is usually to answer a question, and the results are usually the answers to that question, the request is called a query. Good night!

Do you mean qwerty? It is the designation of the standard keyboard, since the top row left hand side begins with those letters. It has even been accepted in the 'Scrabble dictionary.
A query is a question, if you mean query.
