While Mexico had many social, economic, and political problems with deep roots in its history, it also had more immediate problems that led to the outbreak of revolution in 1910. Although Díaz’s development policies had produced some impressive results, the new prosperity benefited only a small elite, perhaps 10 percent of Mexico’s total population. Even these people suffered when the international economy took a downturn in 1907. Mexico also experienced a major crisis in food production and distribution in 1909 and 1910. Antiforeign sentiment grew as foreign investment increased rapidly during the first decade of the 20th century. Although 80 years old, Díaz was planning on yet another reelection in 1910.

Porforio Diaz was the leader of Mexico in the latter 1800s to about 1917 or so. He ruled over an alliance of foreign investors, the Catholic church, the military, and landowners. He was corrupt, but the trains ran on time.
There was a Mexican revolution. From it one party eventually took control. Like governments everywhere it promised much and delivered little. It may have been corrupter even than Diaz. But for decades it was Mexico's so-called freedom party.
Vicente Foxe came and finally defeated this one abusive party, promising great reform. It has not come.
A great Mexican leader of the 1800s Santa Anna had a good view of Mexico and its politics. I think it is still true today; of Mexico: "So close to the United States, so far from God."

They made a good try for lower Texas, for the oil, and we--as AMERICANS--kicked their azzez back across their border.
You simply don't mess with Texas. Period.
But it wasn't a total loss: in time, Mexicans found a global desire for coffee.....and that OTHER horticultural grown product (a-hemmmm).
Given that and why they can't make their country productive to want to stay there, beats me.
