It seems to be a very good laptop but it may be expensive.
Make sure you are not buying it on the internet though. You never know what hardware they will be put into the system. I had this problem when I tried buying my laptop! Go into the nearest computer building store, e.g. PC World, and get it from there. All in all, I think this computer is excellent, but having Windows Vista may pose to have problems... I recommend Windows XP Professional now, but you may want to upgrade in a few years when the Vista has less bugs.

Yes, it is good but you may want to upgrade the "Random Acess Memory" (RAM) - This is basicly how fast the computer will run. Also you may want to get more graphics memory thats the 256MB part but even so - 7300 is fairly good. The Intel core 2 duo is perfectly good at the moment but there will be better ones out soon.
By the way I don't know if this is still true but i've heard that there are various bugs with vista such as - it wont accept some games at the moment. But Microsoft will undoubtedly make a patch for it if it hasn't done so already.
I don't want to offend anyone but Macs are rubbish. They don't even have a proper hard drive - They overcharge like crazy and they don't even look good. If you want looks, get a Sony Vaio.

It may be a good laptop - but are you asking the right question? Is someone trying to sell you a laptop they don't want? Why don't they want it?
As someone already said - what do you need it for? I would also suggest that you think about the IT skills that you have? If you are a user rather than a techy you may want to consider a Mac. the person saying that they don't had a proper hard drive is incorrect. Macs use hard drives like windows machines. Apple Macs have the advantage of being virus resistant, and of being easier to use, with fewer crashes and hardware problems. Speak to users of windows and apple machines, visit stores where they can be bought - try and visit an Apple shop if there's one near you. When you have collected the evidence and worked out what you need then make your choice. Once you've paid you have to live with the decision for years, paying for the right machine now means you'll still be happy in three years time.

It might be if you were to get Vista replaced by XP.
Vista is the most intrusive, gimmicky, useless operating system conceivable. OK, I'll get off the fence,it's useless, except for people who are turned on by constant interruptions and help systems written in gobbledygook.
The Microsoft programmers seem to have decided "let's show them all how clever we can be" and then put together an operating system which is so user unfriendly it's a joke.

Depends on the brand name, motherboard and how much oure spending on it. An XPS, voodo, alien with those specs would be much more expensive than an acer r an emachines, and for good reason. That notebook would serve you well for several years technically, but if its an emachines......You'll get a good year or two out of it.
EDIT***Just saw the price, I think its a pretty good deal. If you can wait, all the retailers will be having sales in July

its an AWESOME MACHINE really the processor rocks the ram and 7300 is more than enough for a home pc i would even go as far as saying you could play pretty much any game you want. Forget Mac and who care's what make it is a laptop with these kind of spec's has to be good so if the price is right get it !
but i would suggest you get winxp for it instead of vista, it cant be trusted unless you update it about 10 times
i wonder who these assholes are who disagree with me they should all kill themselves for being so retarded . . . who wouldnt want a laptop like this ?
Thankyou cool dude finally somebody who doesnt talk out there ***

I think you're doing OK. The makers and brand usually good for after sell service. You would surely need them as once in while your comp will crash, so choose the brand that is conveniently located near you.
Otherwise, I'm pretty much think that all brands are the same because what inside come from pretty much the same manufacturers.
Good luck, my lap top crashed twice already. One time, the screen totally went dark and HP replaced a new one for me for free, otherwise it cost around USD 250.

That's fine. If you're going to an elite school or majoring in science or engineering then you'll want at least these specs:
Core 2 Duo T7300 (2.00GHz)
Windows Vista Business
2.0GB RAM

If you're buying it for anymore than £800/900 then no, and I think I've been leniant in my price estimation too since most laptops at that price range have at least a Go 7600
