thanks

The Eldorado followed the Oldsmobile Toronado as one of the first large front-drive luxury cars from the United States. The engine drives the transmission through a 2" wide compound chain, which was a pretty radical innovation at the time.

The 1967 Oldsmobile Toronado and the 1967 model year of the Cadillac Eldorado are more attractive to the 'special interest' collector, because they were the first of the type. The '67 'Eldo' was also more 'sporty' in its styling.

The 1969 had the biggest engine you could get in a production car back then (572 cubic inches, or 7.7 Liters). With an enormous 525 pound feet of torque (gross), it could easily overwhelm the front wheels.

With that big hunk of iron sitting in front of the front axle centerline, it was understandably reluctant to change direction from a straight line. In other words, handling was not its best talent.

Although it does have an 'air pump' exhaust air injector for reducing unburned hydrocarbons, it does benefit from the fact that it was before emissions controls had strangled the power out of all the 'muscle cars.' By todays standards, it would still be considered a 'gross polluter.'

One thing is certain. You won't get Toyota Prius Mileage out of it!

'69 was a good year for the Eldo because in '71 they semeed to pack on some more bulk. The '67-'70 just look cleaner and sleeker to me. Hope your daddy owns an oil company, though. 472 cu. in. engine in it gets about 10-12 MPG.

Yeah it had front wheel drive! It and the Olds Toronto both had front wheel drive. At that time they were the only luxury cars with front wheel drive. They were marketed as Grand Touring cars hence they only came in two door models.
