i used to work for Orange mobile phones... we used to advise the customer to first call the handset, sometimes u can arrange to pick it up with the person who has found it. or ask them to hand it in to the nearest police station. (u will need ID on u to prove it's yours) if u cannot get a response from the handset, call up your network service provider and ask them to put an outwards bar on the calls, so if anyone decides to keep your handset, they cannot run up massive bills. if your handset is insured, u will need to report it as lost to your network provider. they'll probably ask u to report it as lost to your local police station. they do this because they will need u to get a Lost Property file number off the police.
the only other suggestion i can make is that u try to find out the number for the taxi firm that u used. see if they have your phone. but i can imagine that would be pretty difficult if u live in a big city.
good luck !

Call the cab company and give them info. The driver or next passenger may have turned it in. I found one once in a parking lot at a convenience store, I left it at the store, I couldn't describe the dude that was standing where I found it, but I had detailed recall of the hot chick that was with him - they knew who they were.

Call your phone and see if someone picks up. and you have to make out a police report to report it missing. depending on your cell phone provider. they will replace it for free if you have this report. and you put insurance on it. if you don't. and you get a new phone pay for the insurance. it will pay off in the long run, if this was to happen again.

1.call it
2.do you have gps on it?like can it be tracked where it's at and all?
3.are you in NY?In NY black cabs, there should be a certain company affiliated with them, look up their company to find their phone number and call.A lot of people in black cabs work as on their own,but some got a company...Look it up.
4.if no one picks up,report it as lost,so nobody can make phone calls on it,including international calls, which will make your phone bill so high. - i suggest you do that asap so no one can you your phone.
5.if you can't find it for some reason,I suggest you go to your phone company, and after report is done,if you got insurance, get another phone.
GOOD LUCK...hope you find it.

Unless you're in Singapore, or recall the exact details of the cab and time you were in it, time to pucker up and kiss it good-bye.

try calling the phone and leaving a text message. i hope your phone is on. if you're lucky, the cab driver will call one of the numbers in your directory. if you know the company, you can try calling them as well.
