Unless you lived through the seventies and the the Reagan eighties you'll never know how great he was. Two things to remember. One the Democrats controlled both houses of congress AND the media was openly hostile to Reagan. Fox news had not been invented and most TV news agencies CBS, NBC, and ABC were tools of the Democratic party (and still are). Reagan had that uncanny gift of being able to communicate directly with the American people. Clinton had the same ability but was not quite as beloved as Reagan.
However, like any President there is much he can be criticized for. He was President not Christ.
I like how Jimmy Carter (the man that elected Ronald Reagan) is attempting to cast himself as an elder statesman. He was a laughing stock when president even the erstwhile supporters thought he was a tragic failure as President. He claims credit for the Camp David Accords when the Egyptians and Israelis had already negotiated the treaty without his help.

I never understood what was so great about Reagan. The man understood nothing, was a grade B retired movie actor who shilled for Westinghouse and other corporations before becoming Governor of California. His administration was not as corrupt as THIS presidents, but the collapse of the savings and loan industry, Iran Contra, happened on his watch.
Reagan is more of a myth than any kind of real leader.
Granted, he was better than GWB, but I don't understand why people made such a big deal about him. He was all image and no substance.\ He had a fondness for rightwing dictators and aided death squads in Central America and presided over a fiscal domestic policy that favored the wealthiest individuals as well as corporations such as Becttel. I still don't know why we had to get 244 Marines killed in Lebanon, or aid Saddam or arm the Mujahadeen in Afghanistan.

Reagan had a lot of bad policies. He plunged the nation into debt (though not at the rate of GWB). He placed onerous burdens on reproductive autonomy and sought to repeal posse comitatus and the public defenders office. (If you are too poor to pay for a defense, you obviously do not need one).
"Tinkle down" was a terrible economic policy. The Meese Commission on pornography was a disastrous joke. Reagan's relationship with Jerry Falwell's "Moral Majority" undermined the disestablishmentarian foundation of our nation--the one key element of our country's true greatness. We see what happens under theocracies such as the Taliban rule of Afghanistan.
The Iran-Contra affair showed really poor judgement, as did his arms for hostages deal (related to that). Our School of the Americas has given us international blowback, as the terrorists we have trained have, so to speak, come home to roost.
In comparison to the present president, Reagan was awe-inspiring wonderful. But really, in all honesty, he was not as great a president as Jimmy Carter was. And Jimmy Carter, while a very great man, was not an especially effective leader.

Yeah, quite a few people from Latin America hate Reagan. He supported and funded many murderous dictators in that region. Republicans also like to say he bankrupted the Soviet Union, which is basically a lie. The people of Eastern Europe and Russia got rid of the Soviet Union. not America or Reagan. Not to mention he lied to the American people about the Iran-Contra Affair.

You want us to agree upon a man that saw the following happen in his administration
1. US financial and military support for dictators such as Marcos, Pinochet, Soeharto and Hussein
2. US funding of radical islamic elements that later became Al Qaeda and the Taliban
3. US illegal covert operations that climaxed with the illegal selling of arms to Iran in order to provide funds for the overthrow of a democratic government in Nicuragua
4. Promises of prosperity and growth turn into record deficits, increasing poverty, the worst recession since the Great Depression and only moderate improvement in unemployment.
I know how I feel about this man - will you agree with me?

I absolutely can't stand Ronald Regan.
The fact that he had Jerry Fallwell on his side completely ruined it. That, and the fact that he's the one that brought Corporate power into the American government. Plus the whole Berlin Wall and ending the Cold War thing. Bull ****.
So, as we speak; Ronald Regan and Jerry Fallwell are playing poker forever... in HELL!

He was a great President and a greater man. We need more like him. Here we go for all you morons that cannot appreciate what a great man Reagan truly was...
1. He brought back the hostages from that "wonderful peace loving country" Iran
2. He prevented a major economic recession (why do you idiots think the gas prices were so high)
3. He gave us Reaganomics (Why do you idiots think the economy was soooooooo good during the Cliton years) Bubba was too stupid to create that economy
4. He won the cold war (Slick willy couldn't win a snowball fight). He did bring down the wall.

You can't be serious. The man was a dimwitted fraud. I still can't believe he took credit for the fall of the Berlin Wall when it was caused primarily by an economic implosion in Russia brought on by decades of overspending on the arms race. My dear, you need to educate yourself.
