unemployment means there is no job to do and underemployment means one has a job but the payment that is got is much below the required level
these kinds of happenings are seen mostly in underdeveloped and developing countries

Unemployment means you are out of work completely
Underemployment means you have some employment but its wages are below the level from which you were paid by a previous employer and may qualify you for partial employment wages.

Underemployment - working but not your field of work. Like doctor working as a nurse.

When someone is unemployed they don't have a job
When someone is underemployed they have a job, but are not working full-time even though they could be and would like to
