It would be better if he go out of the room to be honest with you, i certainly wouldn't be able to sleep with a light on..

We both have this problem from time to time. We either go down stairs or into the spare room to read so as not to disturb the other. Ask him nicely if he wouldn't put the light on - tell him you sympathise but you need your beauty sleep and you would appreciate it if he went into another part of the house to read. Or why not both try a little reading before you go to sleep - this way he might be just tired enough to go to sleep and stay that way.

Well, it doesn't disturb my wife ... who is a blind person.
It sometimes disturbs the cat or the dog, who get up and leave.
According to sleep experts, if a person can't sleep, they shouldn't do other things in bed (than sex), so that Bed=Sleep.
I consider it a common courtesy that if a person is going to read in bed, a clamp light or some other aimed reading light that puts light on the page and not all over the room is a courtesy.

Only if he gets up quietly and goes into another room. Otherwise, it's rude and inconsiderate.

I broke mine of it by switching on the overhead light when I got up at 5 a.m.

These behaviors are usually a sign of a deep personality flaw. So, you need to ask yourself..is it just in this way he's inconsiderate or is it throughout his entire relationship with you?

I ended up getting rid of mine, because it was part of his essential personality to not care about anyone else. It gets really old after awhile.

Well, if you can still sleep with the light on, there should be no problem. If you wake up when the light comes on, he should leave the room or he should get one of those little clip-on lights for what it is he's reading so he doesn't wake you up... Those clip-on lights go for a couple bucks so that shouldn't be an issue :)

If you're a light sleeper than it's a little rude.
I know, personally, that I have to have a certain sound and hardly light, etc when sleeping. So it wouldn't go over well with me.

Maybe you can get one of those eyemasks for at night if it's just the light coming on that bothers you?

That's the usual method for relieving the frustration for inability to sleep. However, it appears you may be inferring that this bothers you, or perhaps awakens you. If this is the case, you need to tell your partner to please go in the other room and read for a while, if they need to. Otherwise it won't be fair to you - will it.

I do this all the time; I have insomnia. Husband sleeps through anything! However, if the other person is a light sleeper, it's bet for him or her to get out of bed.

Check SpellingI do go to another room and after a couple of times without saying a word they will get lonely. They know that as long as you are in bed they are comfy but wonder if you move out will they feel that or do that.

This is only about understanding each other and nothing else. If both the partners understand each other then every thing is right else every thing is wrong. So you have to decide weather you have better understanding with your partner or not.

at least it's not the ceiling light. Try not to make a big deal out of it, b/c it's such a small issue to even argue about...remember pick your battles.
Now if you start loosing sleep over it, then maybe you should make a joking jesture.
