Hmm...I dunno, the 3 trillion dollars spent in Iraq could have helped...perhaps.

I pay a sh!t load for health insurance and I am AGAINST universal healthcare.
UNiversal healthcare is just another way to take away more of our freedom. Why would I want someone else making my medical desissions for me. Why would I want someone else deciding if and when I get to see a doctor or get treatment ? Universal healthcare will be one of the WORST things to ever happen to this country.
If you think that you wait for a long time to see a doctor now or have an operation, etc......just wait and see how long you will wait if universal health care is passed. People will be dieing before they get the help they need

Sure bring on substandard doctors and equipment. Feel free to wait 6 months for testing and/or test results that are needed immediately. Me, I'll take my chances by paying for the best doctors, with the best equipment, and not waiting. But I don't put a price tag on my health. You're right though Christ did not ask to see an insurance card, but then he could work miracles. He also did not tax the people he healed or ask for a co-pay. Oh yeah and he didn't have to go to medical school and pay back a small fortune in student loans and carry malpractice insurance. Also if universal health care is so great why do Canadians with money come across the border to see a doctor? Why do Mexicans sneak across the border?

My family is mostly German. They have universal health over there. While it is a wonderful system, for some, it is GREATLY ABUSED! People go to the spa for a week in the alps or on their doctors orders because they say they are over worked and don't feel "right" Its a nice little free vacation all payed for by the government. The taxes are outrageous because of this. Last time I spoke with my cousin she said that almost 40% of her income goes to taxes for government programs. Universal health sounds great on paper but it is a huge drain on the economy.

FYI, there are several countries with a universal health care system that are rethinking it. They are looking for ways to get away from it and have a more Americanized one...

We really need to find a "happy medium" between what we have now and universal health care. It's not going to be an easy thing to do...

If you are referring to "universal health care" as in socialist medicine, as proposed by the likes of Hillary Clinton, forget it. For example, go to any VA medical center here in the U.S. Go sit the the lobby for a half hour and listen to the vets talk. Most of them are getting less than proper care, misdiagnosed, are not receiving their medications, or not getting them on time, or not getting the proper medications. This is a prime example of government led medical care. You get substandard care. Yes, it's free. But it's a bureaucratic nightmare.

And the same would be for any government led heathcare system. You would get what they give you. And chances are, it would not be as good as it is now.

What is needed is to crack down on these frivilous lawsuits by greedy lawyers. When doctors and health care workers don't have to carry multi-millions in malpractice insurance, the cost of health care would go down considerably.

I also think Americans should get substantial tax credits for medical care costs. The govenment could subsidize the cost of medical care per person, but yet the person could receive private doctors or hospitals, insuring that they would get the best care possible.

Jesus gave freely. That's why He is the Son of God.

That's a very good question, and very well put. I would wager more Christians than republicans are for universal health care for the exact reason you mentioned, as well as a couple others before me. People's basic needs must be met. That Maslow guy knew what he was talking about. Christians definitely preach helping the poor and the sick, whereas the Republican party is more about helping corporations. You know it's true, can anybody say Enron and how the party wanted to treat that situation? Universal health care would make prescription drugs affordable to all people in the nation, not just those who could afford health insurance, and the republican party does not want that, at all.

I totally agree. Even those who work hard to pay for their medical insurance should have no quams with making it free for those who do not have the means (and cheaper for those who already pay)- because the fact of the matter is that the world will be a safer place for everyone if all people's basic needs are met. Im a nontheist, by the way, but you raise a good question

You're expecting too much from Christian Republicans. Especially when you compare them to what anything Jesus has done for others. All others btw - not just a select few.
