my 4 month old sleeps all through the night, 8pm to 8am. I have a question on his sleep during the day, he sleeps on and off for 30 minutes at a time. will he start sleeping more for eg. in the afternoon on his own?

He probably will but not for a long while first. He is getting lots of good sleep at night so he really just needs cat naps to recharge during the day. You can try to distract him from sleep for a little while hoping he will combine a couple of naps into an hour, but you may just cause other problems. You would do best to leave it as is for now. Be grateful for the night's sleep, most of us are still getting up once or twice at 4 months. Good luck

If you are worried about your sons sleeping habits then its best to go to a childhood nurse and check or your local doctor but i would say try and wrap him and change his bum as well and put him back to sleep.. 30 minutes for a baby his age isn't that much at all and you may notice him getting cranky and irritable and you feel as if you cant do anything to make him happy?? it is just him being tired and over tired. He should be sleeping for about 1.5 hours to 2 hours in day sleeps with one awake period. and sleeping through the night like that is great,, its good that your son is doing that now, get as much sleep as you can because once he starts teething then he will wake during the night again..because of pain.

When my daughter slept for 12 hrs (from 6 pm to 6 am) I was going and comming to see if she was alright and breathing my mother in law (God rest her soul) talled me not to worry sleeping is better than eating, she use to sleep after lunch for an hour on her own, also after a midday bath.Babies sleep always after a warm bath.It is not the same though with my grand children. Concider yourself as the lucky ones.

probably not as he is sleeping 12 hours at night - you are so lucky to get a full nights sleep - be happy your baby just wants to cat nap in the day and is interested in you and his world. Sounds to me that you are a lucky lady. sending kind thoughts. x

he may or may not do so, just let him let you know when he is tired, if he is sleeping a 12hour night i wouldnt worry too much about his sleepduring the day, he'll only sleep when he is tired, my 8month old sleeps thru the night and has been on one nap a day for about 3weeks now, and that nap is about 2hours long, she dictates for me when she is tired, and we work like that, as she gets older it might be for less, let your young man let you know, cos he will....good luck
