I am artist/student have been interested in fashion design since the 6th grade. I want to pursue it but my parents keep knocking me down every chance I get. Since I'm an only child it's even harder for me since they are over-protective and only want whats best for me, or at least they think so. I really want to pursue fashion design but my parents are pushing me towards medical school. I'm actually pre-med right now but still have dreams of being a fashion designer. I don't know how to sort this out. Got any advice?

They know it is career, where it is unlikely, one will succeed in the industry.

Convince them that it's your passion and that you would be linked into something that would make you unhappy if you were to take the other path. Show them how much happiness this brings you. Also, look at places that will finance your education via grants and scholarships if you qualify.

Convince them by proving them wrong. If you think you'll become a "good" fashion designer, then look for a random company and show them your designs then if they like it and want it then go to your parents.

Just bluntly tell them tat you really wanna take up your dreams. Anyways, it's really your life, not theirs. If they respect you, they should respect ur choices too.

Maybe they just think you're too young to decide, so show them u are. I can't figure a way to do that, but figure wat's most appropriate to convince them that you are mature enough and very sure that you are not making a wrong choice.

it's your life not theirs. Live your own life as you want. When you don't live your dreams who will regret it?
