How to block unwanted channels from a satelite in a specified area?

Recently indian authority has removed the ban to show the fashion tv. Some adult channels are blocking from the transmission in a particular area , can i know the technology behind this?

The most obvious way would be to program the satellite receivers on the ground not to pass on the signal based on the area code, postal code or other coded location of the receiver.
