So I am a few years off from having to worry about this but I do not want my child to participate in the D.A.R.E. program. I feel it is an unsuccessful program and will be a waste of her educational time at school. I also feel that her father and I will do a better job educating her on this topic at home. From what I remember parents have to sign a permission slip for their child to particpate in the program. Has anyone not had their child participate in D.A.R.E. and did you have any difficulties with parents, the school, etc afterwards?

Only serious answers please! Someone does not have to be a drug user to disagree with an educational tactic.

Unhappily, children tend to give more credence to their peers than to their parents. The exchange of knowledge and ideas in school is extremely important. The earlier a child obtains knowledge of the dangers of drugs, the safer he/she will be. By the time the child is old enough to obtain drugs, it may be too late. These programs are important. They will not lead to your child's taking drugs, but rather, will give him/her the knowledge and the strength to refuse to use them. Please reconsider your choice to keep your child out of this program.

I have just graduated dare. I also won a dare lion because i won an essay contest. So i'm good on dare. It's a great program. I revomend you let your child learn it. It's really fun, and teaches you how to stay away from drugs. It is NOT a waste of time in class. Anyway, i'm sure your kid will love it if they just try it. It's a fun way to get a little break in class and sit back and have fun listening about the bad effects of drugs. Just give D.A.R.E. a chance! You can go to dare.com if you want, too.

I did go through the program and i can tell you it really will not help parents are a better influence say things like if you do drugs you cannot live in this house. Parents are the greatest inpact. if parents do drugs the kid is 70% more at risk to do them to. tell them to so no to drugs enough but not to much. I think it would be ok to not do DARE.
