here it is,

The Country Club rents their banquet hall for receptions.
They charge $500 for up to 25 guests and $8.50 per each additional guest. If you have $1500, how many guests can attend??

i got 142.6, so i know that can't be right.

how would i write that as an equation??

Thanks

hey your answer is right...its
like:{(1500-500)/8.5}+25
that is first 500$you gave it for 235 people....then with rest 1000$you can call about 117.65 people @ rs 8.5 per person
so totally 25 + 117 .65 people =142.65 people
or 143 people(approx.)

OK, so you pay $500 for the first 25 guests.
That leaves you with $1000 left to spend.
Additional guests cost $8.50 each.
The total number of guests you can have equals:
25 + (1000/8.50)

That ends up being 142.6, so it seemed you were on the right track. However, you can't have 0.6 guests, and you won't be able to round up (the 143rd guest won't have enough money for a full entry fee), so the correct answer is 142.

Hope that helps!
