For many years now, the use of capital punishment has become precariously rare, especially in the so called democratic nations.

Criminals and their advocates have successfully abolished the death penalty in several European nations. Thankfully, in the USA we have preserved this vital crime fighting tool, but many other Western nations have not been as fortunate.

What can we do to help the civilized nations reclaim capital punishment and enhance it's use and implementation?

It's a sad sign of the times when criminals are being victimized and the victims criminalized! People forget way to fast about the victims, and the media and vulture defense attorneys have a good way of showcasing the criminal as a victim of society, like the over used insanity and temporary insanity pleas! We need to get rid of these wastes of society as soon as they are found guilty beyond a shadow of a doubt! Increase the death penalty 3000%!

Capital punishment is already overly-used around the world. In many cases, executions in some parts of the world are carried out on the same day as the sentencing. That leaves no room for appeals to occur. The use of DNA in the western countries, particularly the United States, has proven in many cases that mistakes were made identifying so-called criminals, even after being in prison for decades. I believe capital punishment should be reserved for first-degree murder charges that are legitimate and have undergone the appeals process thoroughly and are clear-cut cases, acts of terrorism for mass killings, and as for pedophiles I would offer them a choice of castration or life imprisonment with no chance of parole. As for war crimes exclusive of ethnic cleansing, I would not feel it appropriate to put someone to death. War is war.

Are you serious? You must be playing devil's advocate.
There are no statistics that point to any thing resembling efficacy as a crime deterent for this barbaric, abhorent state sponsored terrorist act. The reason my misanthropic friend that we are the only "developed" country still with a death penalty is that the rest of the West abolished it and lowered their crime rate decades ago! The continued use of the death penalty is proof that this country is a christian theocracy just as Herr Bush proclaimed and no different then the Saudi's (our good friends!) or Iran, China....the list of barbaric countries is long but NOT growing because well despite missteps in evolution such as you the human race is evolving.
WOW you must be a texan

Why stop there? Why not bring back public execution of children, drawing and quartering, and my favorite, slitting open a person's bowels and hanging them with their own intestine. That would really be civilized. Of course you need not feel threatened cause the ban on killing the village idiot would remain in place as he is regarded as a source of amusement and good luck.

Great question. Or rather great statement. You should ask what we can do in our own country to stop those sentenced to death to be able to appeal time and again. I mean jeez, there are scum bags on death row for twenty, twenty five years. I wish I had to live on what it costs to incarcerate just one inmate for a year. I can tell you, it costs "Us" more per inmate than millions of hard working, law abiding citizens have (take home) to house and feed their entire family. Thanks for letting me rant.

America already has expanded the use of capital punishment across the world.

They're killing people in other nations daily.

As far as the rest of us are concerned, we like our laws just fine. Keep your capital punishment at home.

lead by example and dust yourself...possibly other lemmings might follow, we have the death penalty and a high murder rate. other countries have no death penalty and a low murder rate......Hmmmm...kinda shoots that deterrent idea to hell. But wait I agree if we go to the capital and start with punishment there first...it could be a good plan.

You can be the martyr of the cause by offering yourself as the 1st volunteer to experience the capital punishment. That will set the headlines ablaze!
