My partner is bound to be admitted to hospital for an artroscopy at his knee. Not a big deal by itself, but last time he had a similar operation, 2 and 1/2 years ago, my father was visiting us for a week. He took care of my partner when Jim was dismissed from hospital and we had a great time together. It turned up to be the last time I saw my father "healthy"... He had been diagnosed with infiltrating melanoma and was, himself, admitted to hospital a month later with diffused metastasis and died within a few weeks.
Now, I can't help thinking about his time in our house, how much I miss him, and I am waiting for something bad to happen..
Sorry, not a real question, but I don't know how to get over this feeling...

Lovely, you are still exactly that: lovely. Use this self confidence to lift up your spirits. You have to find inner strength, because in all life's difficult moments, we're actually alone. We may have tens of reliable friends and soul mates, but we must deal with pain on our own. Don't let the dark side overwhelm your days! And don't say: easier said than done. It can be done, I've been there and I know. Everything will be ok with your partner. Email me if you wish and if you have forgiven another stupid answer of mine (about research, which I think offended you) cos I'm really sorry to have caused you any discomfort.

It's natural that your mind should go back to a similar experience that you had in the past.

Try to put a positive slant on things by using this occasion to break the association between your father's illness and your partner's operation. This time nothing else bad will happen.
