Well certainly Bush is giving it a good try. He threatened to bomb the countries who were opposed to us illegally and immorally invading Iraq and paid the ones who would agree. Great choices bombed to hell or billions of dollars. That is why so much, almost all of the world hates us. That is why we want to be the only country with nukes. We don't want people like North Korea to be able to defend themselves from us. God help us. I pray we will get a new mindset in the White House next time.

If America is running the world, it is doing so rather incompetently. The United States has not been able to get things right with Iraq, OPEC seems to have us over a barrel (no pun intended), it cannot control its southern border with Mexico, and must remain on guard with North Korea. We also have somewhat testy relations with Russia.
If the United States is doing well, it is because its values have been embraced by the international community. Things like free trade, international institutions promoting free trade and democracy make it appear as if the United States is on a roll. The key is is getting other countries to embrace these noble goals which have been tradtional hallmarks of US foreign policy. If we stay true to these values and eschew military force in making them come to fruition, we'll do even better. Or to put it another way, if you want other countries to be democratic, then just be the best democracy you can and let others see the example you set. That can be more effective than anything.

I believe they could have been if they didn't have a trigger happy yosemite sam as the head of state!! the man is a fool and unfortunately he calls the shots and has pissed away any credibility america once had. The power USA has is shear numbers and resources with about one brain cell to share between everyone. This doesnt work wich is why we get so much 'friendly fire' and unfortunate accidents between allies!! this has taken its toll and the rest of the world now looks at the US brother as a big dumb oaf with zero respect and someone to poke fun at!
However they all fear the lack of a sense of humour and Bushs finger hovering over the red button just waiting for someone to test his resolve.
Democracy sound a bit far fetched, how many americans actually voted for Dubbya?

America is influential but it's not ruling the world. Bush wants to do everything his own way and has no respect for other nations.America used to be the world's 'big brother' but has long been the world's 'bully and joke.' It is hated and despised by almost all the nations in the world now.America no doubt was the 'dream-country' in the world way back ,but not anymore.Americans just have to face the truth .Other nations are stronger now and everyone knows it.

"Free Trade" (in reality Corporate Managed Property Rights) Agreements, written for and by the mostly American based Transnational Corporations (though legally they can be headquartered in Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Dubai, etc. to avoid tax laws) in Secret without any Democratic Process ( Bush's Fast Track) supercede any Government's laws.
737 U.S. Military bases, funded by a half-Trillion a year "Defense" budget, in over 130 countries make sure "Our Interests" (these same transnational Corporations) are protected.

Well they're definitely not ruling the world, as that's a little exaggerated. But, they sure are influential. They think Australia is a mini America.
