That premise goes for any sport, obviously, but not quite as much for baseball or football because they don't have the multi-tiered playoff systems in which about everyone but the cellar-dwelling, not-much-better-than-the-minor leaguers teams makes the post season. While I love hockey and tolerate the NBA, their playoff system makes the regular season nearly inconsequential when it comes down to it. Let's face it: even if your team is the pits in those sports, there is still hope that you can get hot...
Since the baseball playoff system still rewards only division winners or very capable teams as it should, there are less chances for teams to get into the post season, so they had better play fairly well throughout the season, or get ready for spring training the next year. Therefore, while it is very true that a team must be hot when it comes time for the playoffs, (just look at all the wildcards that won it all over the years) I am not so certain that being hot trumps good, consistent play throughout the 162 game season.
A lot of fans - myself included - might enjoy hotly contested pennant races that go to the final day of the regular season, but believe me - practically any player out there would like to be on a team so far ahead in the pennant race that it can rest up for the post season by giving banged up players a day off here and there, sitting in the dugout and chewing sunflower seeds as they watch the younger players finish out the schedule and awaiting their opponents who have hopefully been forced to scratch and claw their way at the end to get the opportunity to play on.
It is the need of every team to first get to the playoffs, then get hot. If they can't make the plays or get the key hits, then they are not going to win, obviously. But they have to get there first.

yes, i agree. The baseball season is a long one, and I believe the best overall team wins the division. However, the team which gets hot, or has the least injuries, or pitchers have incredible games is the team that will win the World Series. Just because your team plays the best regular season in history, doesn't mean a thing come playoff time.

Yes, I would agree with that. That is why I hate baseball playoffs. I don't understand why you have to have playoffs in baseball when you face the team 2 or 3 series during the regular season anyways.
I say whoever has the best record in each league go to the World Series, period. Just like pre-1969.
The Wild Card and the division series is a freakin' joke.

Yes for the most part I agree with that. Pitching is also key in winning in the playoffs. A great pitcher is capable of shutting down a "hot" team and then they arent hot anymore.

I'm going to disagree with you. Case in point the 06 Cardnials. They went into the post season as one of the coldest teams going into the playoffs and they still won the World Series.

No, I am not agree with your statement. How can you say this any team, if the Captain is M.S.Dhoni that team wins wheather you know very well that in last IPL dhoni was the captain of CSK but CSK lost the final against RR. My dear cricket is a game of 11 players not a single player. If you consider individual performence of Dhoni still this is not the best.............

Yes look at the 2006 World Series.
Cardinals got hot.
Tigers got hot after absolutely bombing their last 50 games(14-36 I think)

That's the basic rule of baseball.
It doesn't matter how you do in the regular season if you win the post season.
It's even the same in high school baseball!
