I have a 1995 Buick Park Avenue and 2 years ago the transmission went out. Thinking i'd come up with the money to get it fixed- I kept the car. However that isn't happening- and the car has just been sitting for 2 years (its been started and moved a few times). So I want to get rid of the car. I believe the Blue Book value for the same car in good condition is around 1200 or so- about what a new transmission will cost. My brother suggested I try to sell the parts from the car- and then take whats left to the scrap metal yard and get some $$ for it. Is this a good idea? Any better suggestions? How do I go about selling the parts? Prices? I don't even know where to start- and i'm sick of it sitting outside and I want to get whatever money I can out of it. Thanks in advance.

Parting it out would get you the most money, but are you in a position to do that. Try selling it as a "parts" car, listing those things about it that are in good shape. Less money than the individual parts would get you but better than a $1200 trans in a $1200 car.

Depending how good the body shape is in? You could strip out all the parts and sell them that way. It may take time to sell the parts depending where you live? I use to be a ex-automotive mech. and we would need certain parts that the dealer would not have, So our last chance was the Dealer. If you think by putting a rebuilt Trans. and selling the vehicle and getting your moneys worth, Do it!!! Good luck!
