Did you every consider the possibility that it is true?

I live out of the US six to eight months a year, and from first hand experience, it is fact.

America is culturally isolated. Most Americans live far, far away from the border thus don't know much about the world outside their township and surrounding places. Also, Americans do not travel as much as people from other countries. Some travel when they serve in the military but they mostly go to war zones or to isolated U.S. bases, thus never get to see the good places outside the USA.

I can't speak for all Americans but I can say I'm not aware of anyone who thinks this. We are aware there is freedom in other countries although many are different than what we experience and vice versa.

And if it angers you, why do you let it? Nothing to be angry over but I do appreciate you giving us a chance to speak in our defense :)

I think tribalism and chauvinism are pretty normal human instincts. Western Europeans often think they are more cultured than the rest of the world and sneer at us. Black musicians think they have a monopoly on "soul." Florida Gators fans think they are the zenith of college football. Liberal Arts majors think they have more enlightenment than others. Business majors think they are more practical than others. Science majors think they are more abstruse than others.

There's nothing wrong with it at all - it just is. Check-out ancient history going back to the Babylonians, Jews, Mongols, Greeks, Romans, etc. We have a tendency to identify with a group and resort to chest-beating pride.

I think if you asked Mohandas Gandhi about American "freedom" he might respond
"I think it would be a very good idea"
