I use a wireless router system which works fine on other machines running Windows XP, but my machine running Linux Ubuntu won't connect to it. I know its wireless card is working because it displays that a network is present but won't connect, even after I put in all the necessary identification data.I also know the Internet software is functioning because it works when connected via cable. Also, I've already looked at the Ubuntu Wiki but I can't find anything pertaining to my problem.

if you can connect via wire, get on and go to
add remove applications. Go to advanced mode , activate all libraries, and you should find some networking programs there.
I don't know if you've ever seen it, but there are a Lot of programs there.
If that don't help , try using the router to detect the Linux box...kinda the back-end solution...monitor the router on XP , while trying to connect on Linux.Yeah , it's a pain. But unless you have Linux specific drivers for your hardware...?!

Spock out.

I have seen this, the issue is usually that the driver is not woroking correctly with your card. If you have set the SSID and encryption on Ubuntu and still cant connect. Check you WIFI card chipset.. visit the Ubuntu site or just check the internet for a Linux driver for that chipset.

Worst case, get a different wifi card which is supported. I have found orinoco, senao, etc usually work with all Linux releases.

examine that the instantaneous card drivers are put in on your instantaneous card. you will probable would desire to run because of the fact the basis person to enable it besides. If the gadget got here with Ubuntu put in it ought to have perfect drivers. and for idiots who say this is no longer a actual OS, Linux relies on the actual unique networking UNIX working device which replaced into sharing connections for dissimilar purchasers long before Microsoft even thought-approximately single person DOS! it is likewise the OS working 80% of the internet servers.
