Why are Cicadas So Gross?

I am such a girl about cicadas... They re so nasty and disgusting. does anyone know for sure about how long they will last this year???

Cicadas are so gross because there are so many of them and they will land right on a person. They fall down in heaps when they die, and the decomposing pile of their dead, little bodies has an unusual, unpleasant odor. They stick on your window screens like they want to get into the house, and they thud on your windshield as you drive. They split open slots in all the young, tender twigs and lay their eggs in the slots, and the end of the twig often dies. Dogs will eat so many of them that they throw up. Not a pretty picture.

If they were rare, we would think they were marvelous little things. They really are quite interesting when you look at one of them up close. The eyes are cool.
