Our issues with Russia during the Cold War were not limited to Communism. Our problem with Russia stemmed from the disagreement over how to rebuild Germany after WWII. Communism played into that, of course, because America didn't want Germany to be a communist nation.

Communism is part of the Socialist ideology, and Germany had previously been run by the National Socialists, or Nazi's, which is another reason America didn't want Communism in Germany. There are several types of communism, including Marxism and utopian communism. The main properties of communism deal with a common ownership of property, a classless society basically. On paper, communism is brilliant...in real life applications, however, it never works because of the human element.
