My parents decided to get this thing instead of dial up, and it was working fine last week. But now when I get on the computer to use the internet, it says it isn't connected to the 'Broadband Service' (whatever that means). And the help guide tells me to restart it and I do, but it still has that error. I hooked up the cable cord to the back of it and I can get on the internet that way, but I never had to do that to access the net before and I don't know why. HELP??!!!

Two thing can be going on.
1) The radio on the router is turned off, get your parents to log into the router and make sure the wirless radio is turned on.
or
2) The radio on your computer is turned off. If you have built in wireless you need to turn it on. If you use a wireless adapter such as a USB or PSMCIA Wireless Adapter then you need to plug it in.
