Easy... half as many chromosomes you can find in any other cell of the body. Talking about humans, a cell from your cheek or your skin has 46 chrmosomes. Your egg cell (or sperm cell if you are a male) will have 23 chromosomes, do you know why? because your egg cell (with 23 chromosomes) will join during fertilization with the sperm cell of a male (with 23 chromosomes) to produce a normal individual with 46 chromosomes. We have to complete this reduction in our sex cells because if we don't, the result of the fertilization will have 92 chromosomes and that is not possible!

Half as many chromosomes in an egg or a sperm.

Body cells have two of each kind of chromosome = diploid.
Gametes or reproductive cells have one of each kind of chromosome = haploid or monoploid.
