I am currently having this debate with some friends: Is Modest Mouse emo? I personally think no, some of the lyrics may resemble emo, but I don't see them as being emo from there music/ instrument styles.

Every group out there has a song that has some lyrics that may be considered somewhat "emo", but that doesnt make them so.

No, it's not emo. The lyrics aren't emo, like Hawthorne Heights or Tegan and Sara.

No it's not Emo, in fact they are a Talking Heads ripoff, and if you don't believe me get some Talking Heads and play them and you will find that the Talking Heads were awesome!!!

I don't consider them emo, but if they were it's no big deal. Labels are just labels. All that matters is that you enjoy it.
Their sound to me is more alternative.
