Especially things where people have elaborate sites and there is a lot of misspelling.

The only reason I can think of, is just sheer laziness,or they just don't care for some reason. If I even think I have a word misspelled, It bugs me to death, I have to check the spelling! Also, I think they're in such a hurry to get the answer/question typed in, that they don't want to take the time to mess with it!

I've never noticed a spell check on Ebay, but I've wondered the same thing about here on answers.

no longer in many circumstances. If i'm writing something i know is incorrect, and that i'm attempting to restoration it yet won't be able to determine it out, i'm going to spell examine it, and whilst i'm at it, i'm going to bypass forward and fasten the entire ingredient. =D (oh yay! no study strains in this one! (different than for the word "yay") yet technically that became into after my sentence...)
