I'm just wondering because I'll be volunteering 48 hours at a hospital near where I live; and I'll be a sophmore next year.

Hey! I'm in charge of teen volunteers at a hospital where I volunteer and they are required to volunteer 48 hours over the course of 6 weeks. I imagine that each school has different averages. I'm sure Harvard applicants have a lot more volunteer hours than say a state school. You'll be a sophomore in high school I assume.....one thing you can do is volunteer at the hospital like you're doing, stay on and volunteer over the school year either there or somewhere else and just keep volunteering each summer and the hours will really rack up by the time you'll be applying to colleges. You're starting early and that'll be an advatage for you.
