Its about a girl with some metaphysical powers (learned from her father). Supposedly, one can communicate directly with God and he can talk back. The phrase "let God flow trhough you" and " the broken pieces that can be put back together by humanity" (or something like that) are repeatedly used.
The little girl sees the letters in her mind. At the end, she sees a bird pointing to her the right letters to spell right at the contest. She's supposedly at a new level in this discipline.
Her mother is in a mental hospital, her brother meets this girl who practices Hinduism... etc etc
anyone know the name of the movie?

That is definitely "Bee Season" starring Richard Gere. It came out about two years ago.

They show her "seeing the letters" Richard Gere mentions fixing the shattered pieces, she is asked how what she sees when she closes her eyes and she describes it that way..
"My father told me once that words and letters hold all the secrets of the universe"
Regarding the other answers though.. Akeelah and the Bee has nothing about her seeing the letters.. it's about a girl who wins a spelling bee despite the odds, but nothing about the impact of the words on the world. Nothing supernatural or mystical about it. Good movie though..
