I've done all the research possible on sugar gliders, be it online or from books. I'm getting a pair tomorrow. I was just wondering if any owners could give me any adive, any advice at all, or tell me their experiance with these animals. Also, please don't bother telling me they smell bad. I'm sick of these responses about small animals. The only reason any animal smells bad is because the owners lack of care and neglecting to change them.

You're so original, Zoologist. It sure is funny to be ignorant and annoying!

Hey there! Research on these guys in ongoing - I've had gliders for over a year, and researched for a year before that. I still learn new things every day, and nothing can prepare you for the actual ownership of gliders :). I've had sooo much heartbreak from these guys (being bitten and not understanding why, then two days later curling up in my bra...) but also soooo much love.

As for the smell, the males do have a heavier musk than nuetered males or females, but you're right in that as long as their cage is clean (not toooo clean or they'll over-mark the cage) they really shouldn't smell. Diet plays a huge part in that as well - find a "proven" diet, one that's used widely with great success (you've probably heard all this and done it already haven't you...) and follow it to the T.

I am on http://www.sugarglider.net every day reading posts and learning from other people's questions and experiences. I really love that forum, they keep the drama low key to non-existant and is a very useful tool in stressful moments or emergencies, or to just vent.

Hope this helps some, and congrats on your new additions!

The most important thing you can do with Sugar Gliders is to make certain that you are ready to commit to the time it takes to create and maintain a bond with them. These particular animals require a lot of socialization.

Have fun with them, most Gliders really like crickets for a treat and they will make the cutest little sound when they get that special little treat.

Here's a good link with care info I like to use:

They don't smell if you take care of them! Nice critters. Make sure the diet is varied and balanced. We once had a client come in with one almost starved to death because the "breeder" said only feed it fruit.
