...quite possibly the finest, if not one of the finest performances by actor/musician Jackie Gleason, "Gigot" (1962), as directed by Gene Kelly; Jackie, who reportedly wrote the screenplay, as well as the music, exhues a heart-wretching and sentimental performance here, yet never utters a single word throughout the film. There has probably never been such a tender and personal acting tour-de-force since actor Charlie Chaplin's extraordinary performance in his 1931 silent film, "City Lights".

It is most unfortunate that the original distributor of "Gigot" has yet to release the film on DVD, let alone on VHS tape (I've about worn my videotape, 'duped' off a commercial broadcast); however, if there is any amiable substitution, until that fateful day, you might want to try the recent remake, produced by TNT, and starring/written by William H. Macy, entitled "The Wool Cap"; taking it's cues from Jackie Gleason's touching performance, Macy DOES manage to wretch a heart-felt and respectable performance, and is an honorable tribute to the original film.

Check It Out!!!
