Is it right to not put in your two weeks at work, even though you are completely unhappy and already have a job lined up? I am curious, since I am thinking about coming upon that situation. Any opinions would help...

It depends on the circumstances.. If they have treated you well, or you get paid alot of money, give them the two weeks.. It really just depends..

I just quit a job of 11 years with only 4 hours notice.. but after 11 years I make just slighlty above minimum wage, and was given no notice when they gave MY position to a buddy who wanted a better job then the one they offered him (but couldn't pass a drug test).. so, they decided that I get that, AND they can just completely change my schedule and not give me the time I requested off.. I have more experience there than the OWNERS.. since they didn't respect ME at all, I left... If I had gone the two weeks they would have been sheer torture.. and they would have made me do EVERY disgusting job that they can't get anyone to do.. (that would be the problem with hiring all their drug buddies) My case was rather extreme, with legal issues that I had no desire to be associated with, and a long term mistreatment.. you may have a valid reason as well.. Just think about it.

I don't think it is ever really fair to the employer not to give proper notice. However, if you are that unhappy, and you don't ever expect to get a good reference from them - then go ahead and burn that bridge.

How long have you worked where you are at? If not long and you can make it go away on your resume later- not a big deal. If you have been there over 3 months- you should suck it up and give notice.

You will get a poor reference from them, that is one thing to consider.
