I have an old 500 megabyte hard drive I never use. Would there be any performance increase if I installed it and dedicated it completely to virtual memory?

Not only will the speed of the drive cause issues with performance, but only 500mb won't really give you any benefits.

Much better to just sell it, or possible keep it around to save some documents on.

Most likely not as virtual memory is relatively slow. It will only be as fast as the read/write speed of the drive.

probly not becouse depending on what speed the HDD spins at.

if you have a 7500 RPM hdd and you put in a 5400 RPM HDD boths hdds with move at 5400.

This may slow down your PC

same thing happens if you have HDD on the Same IDE Cable as the ODD

Nope.. It wont do any help in speeding up performance. U can use that for your archives instead or files you don't look into alot.

Try increasing your RAM if you want to increase performance.
