No, but if you think a car's odometer has been tampered with, you can order a carfax to see if there's discrepencies (i.e. car was last serviced at 86k miles but odometer only reads 50k).

On a side note, engine miles are not always a great measure of engine wear anyway. Time & temperature are what really wear on an engine, such as lots of idling and stop-and-go city driving. Unfortunately, most cars do not measure this, although the newer "oil life sensors" being installed on cars these days use these factors to determine if the oil's still good or not.

If it is a newer car the computer might store it. Check with a local dealer. Also, that would not be for the engine, for the vehicle. You can't tell how many miles are on JUST an engine unless you are really talented :)

cut it in half and count the rings. sorry odometer is the only way. you can see if the condition of the engine ie rust, grease etc match the odometer. in other words, the odometer says 20k and the engine looks like hell, then something is a miss.

you are able to desire to interview the guy you're procuring a vehicle from. in the event that they're the unique proprietor, and you sense this individual is honest, then the miles on the odometer are probably precise. If the motor sounds solid whilst working, and no smoke popping out the exhaust, this is probably a solid motor. the somewhat some older stuff is geared up extra powerful than they build em as we communicate.
