It's okay if you can support the lifestyle. And everyone involved has done so of their own free will.
Personally....I wouldn't do it. I come from a family where I was the ONLY boy/man in the household of 3 women/girls. THAT MANY women would drive me insane, if I had to cater to their every need. Mentally, Money, and sexually.
Male---47
Naysayers...Support your own kids without child support...then you can cry about the guy who has 10 kids and supports them all, along with the 10 mothers.
For those who find it impossible to love more than one person. I hope you didn't bother bringing children into your self centered little world. It's gonna be a fun day at the child psychologist today.

Against it but I can see where it has it's positive points. I don't like how young women are herded into these kinds of relationships. That's my primary reason for being against it. I think women should be of a mature age to decide on any marriage much less one that is loaded with controversy.
I do however see a few positives. You see on this question forum many examples of how monogamy might not be the best for everyone. Below I will show an example problem and how it might be fixed with polygamy.
"My husband looks at porn" - A polygamist would have virtually no need for this as he has several women to be with.
"My husband wont clean the house"- One man, many women, spotless house!
"My wife doesn't want sex as often as I do"- Who cares get more wives and leave the ones who don't like sex alone.
"I caught my husband masturbating"- Is there a polygamist man alive that has time for this activity?
"My wife spends all of my money"- Yes, they do, get over it. You lose!
"I want my wife to work she wants to stay at home" -Get the other wives to work.
"I want my wife to stay at home with the kids, she wants to work" - See above solution.
"I think my husband is cheating on me"- No, it's just not your night with him.
"I think my wife is cheating on me"- Which one? lol
"My kids are not well taken care of"- What are you nuts? With all those women in the house! Kids would have many hearts and minds to bounce things off of.
"My wife left me last night"- Yeah, so, you have 3 more...
You get my point...
I think in America. Any marriage possible should be allowed. As long as consenting adults are the ones getting married. I don't care if your gay, a polygamist or an elf. Marriage should not be reserved for us heteros only. Look at the divorce rates. Are we really doing such a great job? Our country was founded on freedom of religion. That doesn't mean that any one religion should choose the social norm for everyone else. That, to me, isn't' freedom.

Its very worng..you find one woman and that should be enough. Imagine how many childern end up being step/half borthers or sisters...Its jsut plain worng. This is a extremly worng practice which should be outlawed., because if you think about a woman isn;t getting all the respect she needs that why he is bringin in more...it a practice for mmen that demand sex and dont get it all out of one woman, becuse thay don't want 15 childer...are you trying to tell the lady she isn't ebough f a woman and so u need more...
BOTTOM LINE: IT WRONG

I am female and 33.
I think POLYGAMY is sick. One man with a bunch of wives. Correct me if I am wrong but isn't this a part of the Mormon religion????I believe this religion was man made......and they say that a man needs to take many wives and have many children.....I forget the reason why though.
I think its child abuse. The men marry these very young women..girls even and get them pregnant and they go from one wife to the next then they raise the kids like that too. ANd a lot of them are relatives to each other...cousins and they have kids with defects. Its a tragedy.
I feel bad for these young girls and the kids that they raise in this type of environment!!!!!!!!

I haven't been around enough to have an experiential opinion, but if it were possible to be married to more than one man legally, with all participants being satisfied physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually, I could be convinced to take advantage of that.
In fact, the thought has some serious fuel for fantasy. Especially if it could be done harmoniously.
Men tend to be a bit competitive though. Someone would get possessive.

I think it is an interesting concept. I know as a working mom I would have welcomed another person there to help with the housework and childrearing. But I'm kind of selfish...I don't share sex, and that is the only drawback for me. Otherwise if I were to get married again I might go for it.

From a guys point of view it a good idea at first.. But you start to think about it, thats just asking for trouble. I can barely handle my one wife when I shrew up let a lone two or three. That family out in Salt Lake, thats just wrong. One man and one woman, thats a marrage, having mutiable wives isn't even close to being morale.

I think it is wrong. In certain "religions" and other cultures, it seems that men are the only ones "allowed" to commit polygamy. That should tell these woman something, shouldn't it?

There are books... Historically, it was quite common, but has gone out of "fashion" probably because women are no longer property. There are those that are quite happy, but having tried it, it is just too much bloody work. Not worth the effort.

Polygamy works for a few. For the rest it only breeds insecurity, jealousy and fear.
