I took some kids to see an Xmen movie and was actually pretty impressed with it.

The best I can think of are Pirates, like you mentioned, the LOTR trilogy, Star Wars and also, Pan's Labyrinth. Although, Pan's Labyrinth has some intense violence in it which may not make it suitable for children. It is also a Spanish film which may put off those who don't like to read subtitles. Besides those films, I would also say National Treasure was pretty good. Although, it isn't a fantasy movie. It's got an interesting storyline and a good actor (Nicolas Cage). As for the books, I would recommend LOTR or Chronicles Of Narnia.

One of the best in my opinion is The Lord of the Rings trilogy. It has it all action, adventure, and fantasy. Plus, some real heroic characters. The Star Wars series is also another good one. Van Helsing, Pitch Black, and The Conicals of Riddick.

Well, the first one that comes to mind is the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and Star Wars. An older movie that is fun is Willow. It is about magic and adventure. Val Kilmer is in the movie.
As far as books go, again The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings trilogy, Harry Potter, Eragon.

I agree with everyone who said The Lord of the Rings and Star Wars. Another one of my favorites is The Chronicles of Narnia. The books are geared a little more toward children, but the film is enjoyable for the whole family. Oh yeah... we can't forget about The Princess Bride (another great one!!)

I'd give the Lord of the Rings Trilogy a serious look if you haven't already. Also, the film Eragon was good. And then there's The Neverending Story and Zathura.

Independence Day - Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum
The Mummy - starring Brandon Fraser and Rachel Weisz
the entire StarWars trilogy. Personally, I think the oldest three were the best.
