I have an in-sink-er-ator sink disposal. When we flip the switch, the thing hums, but nothing more happens. I have used the wrench it came with to crank the bin loose, but it wasn't stuck, it turns freely. Is there anything else I should try on my own?

The motor is done for, if blade is free and hums. The best bet is to replace it. If still under warranty from manufacturer, then they usually send technician to repair or replace disposal.

Under the unit, there should be a place to fit an Allen wrench, usually a 3/8Th's and you should be able to turn this freely. If not, then it's stuck. If it's turning freely and it still only hums as you say, then I'd say somethings wrong with the motor. I don't think it can be repaired. Calling in a plumber would be doubling the cost if you can change it yourself. You didn't say if your that handy?
It's really not that hard. I can change one out in about twenty minutes. Disposals were not made to be fixed, I've never seen one that was.

There could be a reset red button, try that. If not its best to buy a new one, since getting a plumber will either cost the same to come out or even more.
