why would a online friend of 7 years lie about the country he is from ? we have been close chat friends for the past seven years . he knows everything about me and my life and i thought i knew him. but i recently learned and not by his own admission that he is not from the country he told me he was from . and when i ask him to explain he just refuses to do so. and i half't to wonder what else he has lied about. has anyone ever have this happen to them . please only serious reply's and no nasty comments please.

Is he ashamed?? Would you have stopped talking to him if you had known before?? People usually lie to get away with something wrong and not hurt your feelings...(which is wrong)...another reason is to avoid any types of arguments or trouble...give the guy another chance and give him time to explain why he lied...Its not worth ending the friendship of 7 years for something that has an explanation thats probably not a big deal...

I'm not sure. Maybe when you two fist met, he didnt think you'd get so close. So maybe he lied not thinking you'd ever find out after 7 years. If he really is a good person to talk to, and he tells you things about himself, he may have only lied about a few things, when you first met. But i wouldnt know if there's a lot of othe rlies. Yeah, it's happened to me. but i found out soon, Not after many years. He sounds kinda confusing..maybe there's some sort of issue with where he's really from. Maybe he doesnt want to be thought of as someone frm that place.

A lot of people use the interenet as an outlet... online they can be anything that want to be... they can escape from the reality they live on a daily basis and be whomever they wish to be. There are many reasons for this.

It's possible he was trying to escape something in his own life he didn't want to face and the internet is his only outlet.

The sad thing is there are real people on the other side of the computer screen and sometimes people do get hurt from the lies.

Unfortunately, many people treat the World Wide Web as their personal fantasy world. There they can be whoever they want, from where ever they want, and be as old or as young as they want to be. It isn't reality for them, its an escape. Married can be single, ugly be beautiful, lonely be popular. Unfortunately, you have no way of telling whethter this is the case before hand.
He may not want to tell you the truth because it doesn't fit into the fantasy world he has created for himself. Or he could just be a liar.
Sorry. Now you have two choices - stay in contact and go along with his fantasy world, or get a real friendship with someone more honest.

ok online friends to tell you hoestly arnt always honest. they can lie about their age, the can put fake pics on, and they can say make up information, if they dont belive they trust you, or they dont want to. even make a fool out of you. u cant always trust lonline friends, for they can say there the same age as you 15, but they are actually 30, in order to find out more information about you and your life. not every person ytou meet online is good, and can even be dangerous. you could have been online firends for 7 years but the computer hides the true face and erosnality of a perosn. it can just all be lies, it can just be the country o reverything esle. yuo shoulnt really belive that person, and say anything like detailed info about you, your family and friends. no adress or anything for it might not be for the best. if you know a person in real life, at leat you migh have an idea of their true identity, and what they are like, but if its online its like many hidden faces you have never seen before.

so just try to find out mroe info and secres hidden from you,
but i recommened you dont intrus personal inofrmation to your online firend.

goodluck.

There are many that will not say they are from one nation or another for very good reasons. Most do judge others on such things as where they are from.

I have traveled to nations that I would never tell any there where I am from and do alter my speech some.

Lies are abundant and you will hear many and most of the time you will not know if they are or are not.

Always leave room for doubt no matter where it comes from. What you hear, read, say, and any other way of getting information.

First, you need to get away from your PC and make LIFE friends. The fact you have chatted with someone for 7 years that could have been lying to you all along concerns me. Limit your internet time and focus on true relationships.
As for the internet person... it's the net.... you have to set yourself up to be messed with.
Play it safe- ALWAYS!

Maybe he is ashamed and insecure. I don't blame for having to wonder, but I would be very careful since he is an online pal. You never know what else he could be lying about. Sorry for what happened.

No I haven't, but you must really feel betrayed. It's terrible that he lied but kept the lying to you for 7yrs. I honestly had no idea there were people like that and I am sorry it happened to you.
