With angels it can be either, but kissing or lip locking is usually a sign you have a pair that are forming a bond preparing to spawn. Here's some info on angels and how they breed:

Hope that helps

Do Fish Kiss

They could! They are supposed to be ok together but that's exactly what we had. We had 2 tiger barbs and 2 kissing gouramis and now we only have one kissing fish! He does NOT like other fish, we even got another kind of fish afterwards so he wouldn't be lonely and the next day only half of it was there!!! So yes some fish will attack others.

Gouramis are a type of fish belonging to the family Osphronemidae which is a type of labyrinth fish (same family / type as a Betta) - so they're are more likely to be fighters during kissing.

Angels - cichlids - are kissers during mating.

And Tiger barbs (a carp / minnow)... that just mystified me while I was watching two of them, who where huge, "kissing" and twirling.

It may be a display of dominance or it may be a display of court-ship - depends on which breed you're dealing with.

Tiger barbs are known to be fin nippers, especially if they are not kept in a large school, or the tank is too small. Kissing gourami can will grow into a large (8-12") and quite aggressive fish itself, so a big tank is going to be needed anyway. Ian
