What would you do, assuming that what they were doing was technically legal (which I think it is, as a form of protest, if abiding by fire regulations and all).

Obviously I wouldn't do it, but I was just wondering how you'd react. Serious answers, please.

since this act is apparently protected as free speech, as disgusted as I would be by the act, I would take photographs of the people and post them in the print media in our area as well as in every liquor store and bar in a 50 mile radius of the burning. They won't be able to show their faces in any public drinking establishment for a long long time, that will give them plenty of time to think about not being stupid any time soon. And if they were stupid enough to show up, the patrons would take care of explaining flag etiquette to them.

I would be curious and ask what it was that they are protesting.

I did serve in the military, and I didn't just do it so that people I agreed with could be heard. Personally, I am proud of knowing that my service is a part of what keeps us free enough to do that. I am likewise proud that we still have enough respect for our country that it shocks us when a flag is burned.
It is legal to burn the flag and while I don't think it is the right way to go, I can understand that someone else may feel that it is the only way to be heard. They do have a choice, and there are many choice we have the option to make that many others do not agree with.
I do not support violence against someone who burns the flag. If you take an illegal action against someone that is not breaking the law, no matter how much you may disagree...
just whom is wrong there? Burning the flag may be disrespectful, but breaking a law is another form of disrespect.

i am English and live in England but if i saw anybody mistreating the US flag- stepping on it spitting on it ripping it burning it- deliberatly i would have to do something about it.

1st of all i live in England so i would call the cops and have the scumbag taken away for causing a public disturbance. if they were burnign the flag i could have them done for breaching public safety too.
in the meantime i would personally confiscate the flag or extinguish the flames.
then i would loudly start singing the Star Spangled Banner and other patriotic American songs and get the small American flag out of my pocket that i take with me everywhere i go and hold it high.
i would take the damaged flag home with me.(or if the police needed it for evidence id go get it back off them after theyd finished with it).. if it had been ripped id sew it back together.
if it had been spat upon or stepped on i would have washed it clean. if it had been partially burnt i would take it outside and finish what they started within the respect and privacy of my home and in a proper manner.

I'd put it out because it can spread and start a bigger fire. I really don't care politically one way or the other. Everyone has an opinion, he should be able to voice his as long as he paid for the flag, it's his property. It's just a dumb piece of cloth anyway.

Well if an American flag touches the ground you must burn it. That is what i was taught. If someone was just burning it to show their freedom or whatever that is wrong ,I would say somthing. If you are not proud to be in this country go live in a Third world country and see how we really do live in a free country. God Bless America!!!

what the hell is wrong with all these people!!!
how can they say "i would beat them up" or "that person is a terrorist"

a terrorist is not a person who burns a flag. a terrorist is a person who tries to get their way by instilling fear and "TERROR" in peoples minds.

bunch of ignorant @$$hole who dont kno what they are talking about. there could be SO MANY sides to the reason why the person is doing it...like to show that they dont like the current goverment...or just to show thier distaste for some political issue. there ARE other ways to protests but the person might just be expressing his/her passion for the issue.

people have underwear that has the US flag and its on thier freakin butt....how the hell are they gonna say its wrong to burn the flag when they are wearing it on their @$$ and farting on it.?!?!!!??!

personally, i would find another way but i wont be like "AHH!!! terrorist!!!! if i saw an american buring a US flag.

I would first weigh the factors and be sure that I walk away from it alive. The moron is without a doubt expecting some type of a confrontation, and is more than likely prepared. If I see there is no lethal worries, then I will do some major a*s kicking.

It would bother me but since I know its legal I would do my best to ignore it. Its a free country. Burning the flag is considered a form of free speech and we should all be glad that that treasured right is protected. Besides, the proper etiquette for disposing of an old flag is...to burn it!

I'd say if they don't like the country they can leave. That would save themselves the money of buying flags and matches to express themselves. If they were burning a flag that didn't belong to them, I'd call the cops (and fire department).
