Where is the line between a common car and a luxury one?

Most of it is just marketing -- generating enough buzz about a brand name to create a feeling of exclusivity and snob appeal. There ARE some tangible differences, of course. Luxury cars will typically have things like:

- More powerful engine
- Higher quality interior (better plastics, better quality leather, better electronic displays)
- More comfort options (heated seats, dual-zone climate control, power seats, adjustable pedals)
- More safety features (things like ABS and stability control were first introduced in luxury cars before trickling down to lower end cars)
- Better dealer service, longer warranty

But again, the biggest difference is the badge on the hood. Even after accounting for feature differences between a luxury vs. non-luxury version of very similar cars (e.g. Acura TL vs. Honda Accord V6), there is a price difference of several thousand dollars, a chunk of which is used to put out more advertisements telling you it's all worth it.

A luxury car is very different than a regular car. There are some nice regular cars out there that offer the feeling of being ''comfortable'' but there is a special feeling to a luxury car. When you get in you really feel like you are in the lap of luxury. From the high quality leather seats to the looks gadgets and performance of the vehicle. Its an event owning a car like this. A regular car you just get in youre like ok lets go. Its just a mode of transportation that gets you from point A to point B. A luxury car feels like you could live in it its so nice. It has all the added comforts and conveniences. Its made for convenience.

I think you need to define luxury. Luxury is usually something you dont need. So, the thing here is to find cars with things that are not really neccessary, but since a lot of things in cars are now common place (radios, ac, etc), you need to consider things like xenon headlights, premium sound systems, smooth rides, excellent fit and finish, phones, and so on. Speed can also be considered a luxury, b/c really you dont need much power to get around.

This is where your question comes in. You draw the line where things that are common place on cars like an infiniti, lexus, mercedes-benz, or audi (and of couse others), and are not even avilable on other cars.

Also, they have a tendency to make you feel a certain way; i guess you can call it special. Very cool. But they usually do make use of all the extra cash you shell into them.

Hard to define, but take a toyota camry. A stock camry with the 4 cylinder and 4 speed automatic isnt a luxury car. Now take the same camry, add a 6 cylinder, 6 speed automatic, leather heated seats, a moonroof, bigger tires, and it's a luxury car.

New autos are safer, greater stable, gets greater valuable MPG and usual basically makes existence much less complicated. maximum used luxury autos do no longer contain warranties, and restoration expenses, which truly provides up. more expensive, more features, more comfort, more technology, they are built with better materials and are more reliable...there are many classifications of luxury cars (mid, enrty level, high end, ultra, etc)
