The final is worth 25% of the total grade--I am not a math wiz and need to get an idea how hard it will be for her to pass this class with at least a final 70%. Thanks!

multiply (0.67*0.75)+(X*0.25)=0.7

solve for X

0.5025+0.25X=0.7

0.25X=0.1975

divide each side by 0.25 to get X

x=.79 or 79%

What we have is 67% X 75% + E X 25% = F; where F is the final grade and E is the big exam grade for the term. 67% X 75% can be read she got a 67 on 3/4 of the final grade and an E on 1/4 of the final grade.

Since she needs a 70% to pass, we have .67 X .75 + E X .25 = .70; then E = [.70 - .67 X .75]/.25; you can do the arithmetic.

She has to get at least a 79% on the final to pass the class with a 70%.

75%*67%+25%(Final)=70%
Final=(70%-75%*67%)/25%
Final=79%

Maam,

Your daughter needs to get at least 79% of her final exam to have a 70% rating in her class.

79% will give her a 70% total

(just for consolation - a 77% would give her a 69.5% and would likely round up to 70%)

good luck!
