I am going to buy a laptop for graduate school. I will be carting it to school with me every day so would prefer something lighter if at all possible. I also need something that isn't too terribly slow. I don't need anything that has lots of memory since I am using it simply for internet, applications like Word and Powerpoint and that's about it! Any suggestions?

I have an HP Pavilion and I'm pretty satisfied. I heard Toshiba wasn't that bad either.

You must spend your money for the best brand.

As I know HP and Dell are the best in laptops for a long time and they are very reliable too. I trusted HP and I bought a HP laptop 2 years before, and still like the day I bought it. Didn't even have to service it at least once up to now.

I recommend you to buy a HP (with experience) or Dell laptop.

On www.hp.com you can even customize your laptop. And also you can check the price.

also, any new laptop will have windows vista on it. vista is a resource hog, and won't play nice with anything less then 1 GB of ram. Two gigs would be better. The HP's are indeed good machines, and something in the 15.4" screen size isn't too terribly heavy while being good for vewing.

If you don't care how much you spend, by from Apple (some of the lightest computers in the world). You can buy a program for $100 to run Windows on it but I wouldn't do it if I were you. If you want to buy a regular computer don't buy a Dell because they treat you like crap once you buy it, and its ridiculously over priced. I've heard great things about HP, or you can try Sony. Good luck in your search for the perfect computer.

Well, I am not sure what your price range is, but the MacBook is a great choice.
It is very fast, USUALLY never gets viruses, lightweight, great applications (iMovie, iDVD, iTunes, GarageBand, etc.), you can purchase Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Entourage. It has a built-in webcam for recording videos, taking pictures or video conferencing. I would go for the one with 1GB of Memory, it's about $1099. The one with 512MB of Memory, I believe is $999. Please, consider the MacBook. It is a great machine and I am very glad with my purchase!

If Acer Travelmate line still out the market you should look for them, they are very small physically, about half the size against those dorm room desktop replacement laptops.

i do no longer comprehend lots approximately computers, yet my workstation is a Sony Vaio, anticipate to pay around $900 yet quite worth it. 1GB isn't lots memory, do no longer anticipate to maintain lots, expeically movies, photos, song etc. in the adventure that your in ordinary terms employing it soley for college/paintings and only saving papers, it appears like a solid deal, even then however, you are able to desire to desire extra area. i could recommend to pay slightly extra, for a extra powerful pc, i've got heard from many pals and kinfolk that Acer computers are junk, and to in no way purchase one. look up and study they're reveiws, there no longer that solid... solid success!
