Because the citizens of the blue states don't run the big corporations, Republicans do, and they pay off the Republican party to enable anything for a buck.

I think a person has the right to purchase any type vehicle they like. Each person knows what they can afford regarding the gas. Me, I will keep driving my truck and my SUV. The Global Warming is a Convenient Lie of Al Gore to try and gain a platform to run for President on, so he can lose again and whine some more. The part about Michigan producing low mileage cars, contradicted your first statement. As far as causing kids to die, because of low mileage cars, does not make any sense at all. Blame game here.

I wish we could drill off our own shores but environmentalists wont let us :(. I'm not 100% sure but I think they said we shouldnt drill in Alaska cause it would take the enviroment there a turn for the worse but when the oil company put a pipe line in, the animals were having babies by it because it was warm. So I don't know, maybe I'm wrong, but I feel if we're gonna be using oil of any kind, it might as well be our own and at the same time promoting American business. At the same time becoming less dependent on Middle Eastern oil.

People buy what they want and Detroit delivers. The public changes what they want daily while the auto industry takes several years to catch up.
The industry also has the union bargained benefits that strap the companies to pay for idle workers and health and pension benefits.
Some one going to get hurt before the industry returns to its leadership.

States don't make cars, companies make cars.
They make what the executives decide, based on market analyses.
The reason companies make gas guzzlers is that there are a lot of morons who buy them.
The manufacturing plants may be located in blue states, but it's not the governments of those states that determine what is made there.

Don't blame it on Michigan. They build what the public wants. If the were not ordering these vehicles, you would not see so many of them on the road. The people are getting just what they ask for.
