A pick up has an open bed. Vans, and panel trucks that are enclosed, are trucks, but not pick ups. The so-called "sports utility vehicles" or SUVs that are so popular now are trucks too in the literal sense, since thery're mounted on truck chassis, but I prefer the term "station wagons on steriods"!
