okay, well i was on my way to work today, and i noticed my car was whining really loudly.. And i thought at first it was just the road, but then a lil later in the day i was on the opposite side of town and I heard it again. I also smelled burning rubber. Any idea what it could be? Any suggestions will be helpful! THANKS!

Your car is telling you there is a problem. Please take it to your local dealer or repair shop to have it inspected. There is a good chance you have a bad bearing on the water pump,ac compresser.alt or power steering pump. This is something to do quickley before something locks up and cost more money to repair.

I got about six years on a alternator in my 95 Monte Carlo, that's about what happens with the lights dimming cause the battery is doing most of the power supplying now. Your Blazer will soon stop cause the battery is not being charged. Remove the alternator and have it tested before your stuck out in the cold. 7 years on a battery is pushing your luck too!

Something need attention. It is letting you know (odd sounds and smells). Take it to a local garage you trust and have them look it over. Could be something simple like a belt, or a lubrication issue. Be exact in what you tell them. Turning down your road doesn't tell me anything for I do not know what the difference in road conditions are because I do not know where you live or the road you are on.

It sounds like some belt-driven accessory is stuck and the belt is burning. Probably the power steering belt but possible other items driven by one belt. Look! The belt is probably frazzled, but the cause is something not turning. Or else the belt is way too loose.

Loud whining noise and burning rubber smell equals fan belt slipping most of the time. Have it checked out but that,s what I,m guessing.

The sound makes me think it's a power steering pump which gets louder when you turn the wheel. I don't know about the smell.

I can answer this!!!!.......If theres a whinning or squealing noise and it smells of rubber it is a belt that is running the power steering pump, and whatever else it may be running.Check it to see if its loose or if it needs replacing and replace it.Can do it all your self if you are confident.

okay..open your hood...and look at your serpentine belt...feel the underside...press you finger against it's underside..what does the groove look like..is it deep..?..does the belt look like it is intact..not worn? or cracked/frazzled

press on the belt itself..does it feel "tight" by this can you press in no more than like 1/4 of an inch..

if the belt looks fine...then perhaps it is your brake pad
remember something rubber is "burning here"..which means friction and heat..

I'm thinking it is your belt slipping...part of it is wearing away..not having deep groves..then whinning and burning

maybe your serpentine belt, could also be your brake pads going bad. either or you need to get your car to a shop immediatly, the longer you wait you could either get stuck out in the middle of no where and make your repair expenses really steep

It sounds like one of your break calipers is sticking. When this happen it holds the break pads tightly on the rotor stinks bad and tears up the rotor and breaks pads. Have it fix asap
