I am starting college in the fall and I need a reliable laptop to use. I'm looking for somthing with wireless internet, a decent amount of memory, somthing that can burn CD's and plays DVD's, and somthing that I wont go insane over it being slow. I don't do any sort of gaming so no need to bother with that. Just looking for something that wont break easily. If you guys could give me some ideas that would be great.

well in ur case u should get urself an HP 17" laptop. check hp.com for the latest models out and look for a 17" laptop. that would be good for viewing DVDs . and yes it will also have a wireless card in it so no need to worry u can get wireless net with it too. make sure to get it with a Core 2 Duo processor and like 1 GB RAM. that should be fine for ur type of usage. since ure not a gamer u dont need overkilling RAM like 2 GB and 4 GB. so that should be it....just get those stuff in it and HP would be a good brand for u. HP laptops are durable and long lasting.
Remember....1 GB RAM, Core 2 Duo processor and 17" screen and u can get a 100 GB hard drive too. good for storage since ure guna be using it for college.
good luck
hope i helped

Processor Options: Core 2 Duo
Graphics Options: nVidia Go 8400m (Dedicated)
Description: The HP dv6500t is a 15.4" screen laptop with Centrino Duo technology, optional web camera and Nvidia graphics or integrated

I've had good luck with my Toshiba Satellite. It's not a top-end gaming unit or anything, but has travelled around the country a lot for work (Not just in nice clean offices either). It's been reliable and was reasonably priced. Tiger Direct aka Global Computing seems to have consistently good prices:

I'd suggest looking at a Macbook if you're not tethered to Windows. Everything is easier on a mac, and everything is available too(IF you happen to find something that isn't you can run windows on a macbook too). They run right around a thousand dollars and are well worth it. You get awesome support for your money too.

If you absolutely must have a Windows only computer, I'd recommend a Lenovo T61

I bought a used IBM Thinkpad for $300 --- added a new battery for $65 -- case for $20.

It's a little slow and sometimes the fan is noisy, but it's just a laptop --- and it's reliable and has a great keyboard.

I have 17" HP laptop. It's pretty good but I think you can get smaller one. Battery lasts for about 3.5 hours. The bad thing is that my keyboard broke after few months...

I have a HP Pavillion dv9000. I love it and Hewlett Packards are great computer's. I would really suggest this computer, or at least looking into it. They aren't cheap let me let you know that, but it SOOOOO worth the money!
